Bayview Environmental Services completed the asbestos cable abatement at the San Onofre Power Generating Station for its Decommissioning.
This project involved several challenges including extremely stringent access requirements, additional environmental hazardous training, protocols and PPE, difficult work area access due to elevated and congested infrastructure as well as stringent COVID-19 procedures.
The scope of work consisted of the removal and packaging for disposal of 27 miles of asbestos braided cables that are found throughout the plant and included the cleaning of asbestos surface dust from the 370,000 square foot facility. The contract was valued at over $7.7 million dollars and was completed on schedule.
View ProjectThe Pier 70 Building 12 project showcased Bayview’s capability to perform complex work within a historic structure, including asbestos and lead abatement, MEP tasks, and selective demolition. The project began with complete building decontamination, allowing safe access for other trades. Bayview removed approximately 30,000 square feet of lead paint from structural columns and abated nearly 58,000 square feet of asbestos-containing roofing materials, while completing 30,000 square feet of MEP and structural demolition. In addition to safety and regulatory compliance, the project emphasized community impact, meeting stringent local hiring and local business participation requirements, demonstrating Bayview’s commitment to both excellence and community engagement.
View ProjectThe project at 1 North 1st Street involves selective demolition, hazardous materials abatement, and soil excavation at a four-story office building in Downtown San Jose. The demolition scope includes removal of concrete walls, concrete slabs, structural steel, and excavation for new elevator pits and footings, as well as sandblasting of large wooden beams. The abatement work covers floor tile, mastic, and lead paint removal from structural steel throughout the building. The project is phased, with demolition and abatement scheduled for completion in early Summer 2020. Bayview Demolition’s contract for the project is currently valued at over $1,200,000.
