Bayview Environmental Services completed multi-floor hazardous materials abatement and selective demolition at Sutter Health’s Monteagle Medical Center in San Francisco. The project was performed in an occupied healthcare environment and required extensive phasing, off-hour work and coordination to maintain public access and minimize impacts to patients and staff. Sensitive lobby work was completed in overnight shifts, with containment setup, abatement, cleanup and clearance completed before the space reopened each morning. Unforeseen leveling compound and mastic were discovered on multiple floors and removed using floor grinders, requiring Bayview to continually adjust work areas and hours to accommodate noise restrictions and building operations. Work proceeded on multiple floors simultaneously, with challenging material load-out logistics coordinated around patient activity.
