Throughout the years, various union changes have occurred. These changes vary from wage increases to fringe benefit differences to even changes in the observed holiday schedule. In addition, there are changes in the way the dispatch requests must submitted and how training certifications for our current laborers should be requested. Furthermore, these changes vary throughout the different union halls throughout Southern California and Northern California.
Southern California is composed of one main union hall which is Local 300. This union is in charge of all the Asbestos certified personnel, as well as general labor/demolition personnel. This allows us to use these individuals in a dual capacity depending on the type of project. Keeping up with the changes for this union is a little more challenging because our personnel directors need to be specific of whom these changes are affecting, the general laborers or our asbestos-trained workforce. There are also other union halls just focused on the general laborers, which include Local 1184 from Riverside and Local 89 from San Diego.
In Northern California, Local 67 is the main asbestos union and there are a handful of general laborer unions. The main general laborer union halls Bayview deals with are Local 304 from Oakland, Local 270 from San Jose, and Local 261 from San Francisco. Keeping up with changes is a little more controlled in NorCal because of the distinct separation between the asbestos and general laborer unions.
All in all, adapting to local union changes may be challenging at times. However, Bayview has systems in place that have been functional for years and have proved to be successful in dealing with these changes effectively.
