Project Summary

This project encompassed mold remediation, lead and asbestos abatement, and both hard and soft demolition across multiple buildings at the University. Mold remediation involved the removal of damaged drywall caused by heavy rains, while the abatement scope included lead plaster ceilings and walls for MEP trades and the removal of quarry tile with asbestos-containing waterproofing membrane. Bayview’s team also assisted the scaffolding subcontractor with anchoring into asbestos stucco walls. Hard demolition included saw cutting, chipping new openings, and removing non-asbestos quarry tile with mortar bed systems using light diesel-powered equipment. Dustless and bead blasting methods were used to prepare concrete surfaces for new waterproofing installations. Soft demolition included removing stucco walls and storefront systems for new waterproofing and door installations. Due to the project’s complexity and tight sequencing, Bayview deployed a large crew to work across multiple buildings, ensuring timely completion for following trades. This marked Bayview’s first project with Whiting-Turner in Southern California.
