Project Summary

Bayview successfully performed the interior demolition and hazardous material abatement for the 5th Street Building, a seven-story, 490,000-square-foot office building and data center originally constructed in 1970.

The project scope involved the complete interior demolition to return the structure to a cold shell in preparation for its redevelopment into a dental school. Extensive hazardous material abatement activities were performed, including the removal and proper disposal of asbestos-containing materials (ACM) fireproofing applied to the structural steel framework, as well as curtain walls, drywall systems, plaster, thermal system insulation (TSI), lead-based materials, and PCB-containing building components.

The project was executed over the course of 6 months, requiring the continuous management of up to 150 skilled workers at peak workforce levels. Bayview’s performance on this project demonstrated the firm’s ability to manage complex demolition and environmental remediation activities on large-scale commercial properties. The project highlights Bayview’s expertise in phased project delivery, hazardous material mitigation, and large crew management within urban, operationally sensitive environments.
