Project Summary

Bayview provided comprehensive hazardous materials abatement services at the site of the future Cathedral Hill Hospital, a major healthcare redevelopment project in San Francisco. The project involved the abatement of a former hotel and a nine-story commercial building totaling approximately 750,000 square feet of built space.

The scope of work included the identification, removal, and compliant disposal of asbestos-containing materials (ACM) and lead-based building materials. Specific hazardous materials addressed included asbestos found within interior wall systems, ceiling finishes, floor mastics, sealants, and exterior building elements such as siding and window systems.

The project required detailed planning and sequencing to mitigate risks associated with large-scale vertical abatement operations, particularly in a high pedestrian traff environment adjacent to active city infrastructure. Strict compliance with environmental regulations, waste manifesting, worker protection standards, and scaffold safety requirements was maintained throughout the project duration.

The eight-month project was executed with a workforce of up to 80 skilled personnel, demonstrating Bayview’s ability to safely and efficiently manage hazardous materials abatement for large healthcare infrastructure projects.
