Bayview Services recently completed hazardous materials abatement work at the San Francisco International Airport (SFO), preparing two buildings—Building 730 and Building 750—for demolition. The project was awarded to Bayview through a competitive bid process under General Contractor SKANSKA.

Building 730 consisted of a single-story warehouse with an interior office area. The scope of work included abatement of various asbestos-containing materials, including wall surfacing material found on all interior perimeter concrete walls and columns. Bayview safely contained these areas and removed the material using the “Dustless Blaster” system. Additional abatement included drywall, flooring, and thermal system insulation (TSI) in the office area. The roofing tar at the building’s perimeter contained asbestos and was removed accordingly. PCB caulk was identified and removed along the loading dock, along with a few inches of concrete substrate. Loose and flaking lead-based paint was stabilized prior to demolition.

Building 750, located on the tarmac and formerly used for vehicle and equipment maintenance, is scheduled for completion later this year or early next year. The scope includes limited asbestos-containing roofing, TSI, and stabilization of loose lead paint.

Bayview also received a change order for the abatement of lead dust in the canopy over the loading dock of Building 710, adjacent to Building 730. Working with subcontractor Brandsafway, a scaffold was installed parallel to the loading dock, enclosed with shrink-wrap containment. Bayview removed the metal panels beneath the canopy and completed a full wash-down of the structure above to eliminate the lead hazard.

Superintendent Jesus Delgado and Foreman Rafa Gama led the project team, delivering excellent results and completing the Building 730 scope safely and efficiently within just four weeks.
